Piano’s plans in action – a forum for arts practitioners

Following the launch of the schematic designs of the Opera House Site, St. James Cavalier in collaboration with the Malta Council for Culture and the Arts is holding a special edition of the Valletta Creative Forum on Saturday 25th July from 9.30 am to 12.30 pm.

As future users of the space, arts practitioners are invited to discuss Piano’s plans from a practitioners' point of view. A panel composed of H.E Dr. Vicki Ann Cremona, Dr Raphael Vella, Adrian Mamo, Alison White, Kenneth Zammit Tabona and Mario Frendo will give their initial responses to the plans followed by an open floor discussion. The forum will finally break into smaller groups to discuss more detailed suggestions. Similar to the previous edition of the Valletta Creative Forum, the recommendations elicited from the Forum will be presented to Government.

Participants attending the forum are highly encouraged to view the plans at the Museum of Archaeology. The exhibition is open daily between 9am and 6pm.

Thousands of Maltese have already seen Renzo Piano’s Schematic Designs for Valletta’s City Gate

Over the past four days, a total of 4,194 persons visited the Museum of Archaeology in Valletta.

The detailed exhibition, hosting Renzo Piano’s schematic designs for Valletta, was opened last Saturday 27 June by the Prime Minister Lawrence Gonzi, together with Minister Austin Gatt, following the official launch of the designs.

In addition to the 4,194 persons who have visited the exhibition to date, another 125 architects had the opportunity to meet the world-renowned architect in person.

Total visitors to date:

Sunday 28 June:                559 (apart from the group of architects)

Monday 29 June:               1,360

Tuesday 30 June:               1,227

Wednesday 1 July:           1.048

The exhibition consists of a series of models, designs and photos of Renzo Piano’s proposals for City Gate, the ditch beneath City Gate, the construction of a new Parliament in Freedom Square and the project for the Opera House site.

The exhibition shall remain open everyday until the 31 July between 0900 and 1800 hours
